I think that the new design is much better then the old one…it has more of the Thompson feel to it!

Sometimes we have to take q step back in order to move forward. While the new design may not have matched your original objective, it gives inspiration to a wider audience if people who may be encouraged to visualize a utilitarian object as a workshop, artist studio, or mobile office. Once in a while, a blessing is disguised as a challenge or setback. We look forward to a future video tour. Perhaps you might incorporate pop out walls or expandable ceiling to create a temporary smaller unit for travel, that becomes expanded when it arrives to it’s next resting place. Thanks for sharing and pushing forward!

I like the new design especially the green roof. Don’t forget that roof system will add weight, might be an issue when transporting the container. As for the removable roof you’ll need to be careful how you flash it to make sure it’s watertight.
Good luck, can’t wait to see the finished container

Great job! Always interesting to see yet another example of the benefit of just walking away from a project for a bit and then going back and gaining a new, creative perspective.

for the roofing, how about a rolled rubberized membrane material? there a many to choose from, and for such a small space to cover, i would think not too expensive. also, when moving, could you hire a driver with a standard flatbed semi trailer, and a heavy duty forklift? use the forklift to hoist the container onto the flatbed, then off you go! you can go up to 102″ wide without a permit in most areas. keep posting!

Wow !!! My wife and I just checked out yours and your wife’s photo gallery of the primary house-bus featured on Yahoo. It’s obvious someone took the time to raise you and your wife, both, with uncommon sense. What the two of you have done, perhaps unwittingly, is contributed to the redefining of the ever vague and ambiguous American dream.
What a wonderful thing it is for you two to work together to provide shelter for yourselves and your child. You are both very smart to do this. One can only hope you will have made a huge social statement by invoking the thought processes of others who might consider their lifestyle alternatives.
Now, if I can ever get this status quo house finished, I’ll sell the darned thing and never buy another one. My wife and I are happy with a 1,500 square foot shop and a 100 square foot domicile to protect us from the elements.
Thank you, both. We will endeavor to avail ourselves to the information you provide and see where it takes us. Via con Dios to you and yours.

Sometimes things happen for a reason and your new inspiration would never have come to life without the “bad news” part. Very cool. :))

Fairytale! That’s what I thought when I saw your house. Of course your workshop should share those same traits. I am sure it’s going to be great when finished. I’m starting to follow so I can’t wait to get to where it is now. Thanks for sharing your adventure!!

Your final design reminds me of a hobbit hole, all you’d need would be a round door 😉
